Fire Retardant Treated Wood
FRT WOOD –fire retardant treated wood- is a construction material which is manufactured by soaking or vacuum pressuring a boric acid or a phosphoric acid into natural Japanese Cedar and Hinoki Cypress . This allows for the lumber to stay close to its natural state while acquiring fire retardant properties. The Japanese Building Standards Act was revised for this type of fire resistant lumber to be used in several types of buildings. The product has to be authorized by the Japanese minister of Land, infrastructure and transport to meet its expectations and highest standards. The product has passed "cone calorie meter" test.
The requirements of this test are listed below.
1. Whole calorie count must be below 8MJ/M2.
2. There must be no damage to the materials after
heating including cracks, warping and deformities.
3. It must not be exceed 200KW/M2 in the
maximum heat.
4. It must not emit toxic gasses.
If the requirements above have been met, its rank is classified as follows;
- Non Combustible Material = 20 minutes
- Quasi Noncombustible Material = 10 minutes
- Fire Retardant Material = 5 minutes
Since Japan is prone to natural disasters, strict guide lines are put in place. We have passed this strict product testing.
